On what would have been the week of Tony Curtis’ 88th birthday, Avalard is thrilled to be able to announce this collaboration which celebrates both Curtis’ writing and art.

Spearheading the deal is SHADOWS OF THE PAST: THE ART AND POETRY OF TONY CURTIS, a richly visual personal collection of shadow boxes prepared by Tony Curtis himself in the months prior to his death in September 2010.

Also featured in the deal will be a reprint edition of Curtis’ 1993 AUTOBIOGRAPHY, alongside other rare and previously unseen material which is sure to delight Tony’s legions of fans. Avalard’s literary archaeology has uncovered some wonderfully unique material.

Tony Curtis’ widow and Curtis Enterprises representative Jill Curtis-Weber said: “The SHADOWS OF THE PAST book was very important to Tony. He spent many of the months prior to his passing organizing his poetry and the photos of the boxes. His boxes and poetry were very private, he showed them rarely and only to close friends. He loved the idea of a photo book that would share the inner workings of his mind with his fans and the world. We are very sorry he is not here to see the completed project but the estate is happy to continue what he started.”

Avalard Publishing’s Robert JE Simpson said: “This particular journey began in May 2009 when I met Tony and his wife Jill at an event in my own hometown of Belfast. He was engaging and entertaining and welcoming to his fans, with such great stories to tell.

“As we approach Tony Curtis’ 90th birthday in 2015, I look forward to working with Jill Curtis and the Estate in bringing Tony’s overlooked literary career back into the public eye. It is a delight to be working with the legacy of Hollywood royalty.”
