Submissions

Avalard Publishing is happy to consider unsolicited submissions, provided that your submission broadly falls within our criteria. The following is intended as a guide to submissions. If unsure that your book would fit, please send a short email of enquiry to submissions@avalardpublishing.com

Non-fiction:
Film, theatre and television history, biographies, memoirs.
Irish-related history. Historical reprints (within one of the above categories).
Length: 80 – 150k, but will consider work outside these limits.
Not published: Politics, scientific papers, spiritual.

Photography / art:
Generally no unsolicited submissions, unless would fit within other areas of our portfolio. Please send short enquiry email in first instance.

Fiction:
Avalard publishes a small amount of fiction, and while we prefer fiction from our current authors, or on referral, we will consider all fiction sent to us provided that it falls within the following:

Genre : Thriller, Crime, detective, history, science fiction, fantasy, steampunk, alternate history, paranormal, horror, literary, YA that falls into one of these genres.
Length: 40 – 150k
Genres not published : Erotica, romance, womens fiction

Short fiction:
We will consider collections of short fiction, as either edited anthology or single-author collection.

We do not accept hard copies of books, To submit your book please send an email to submissions@avalard.com with ‘Query’ and your books Title in the subject line.

Please include in the body of the email:

  1. A cover letter
  2. A 1-2 page synopsis of your work

PLUS as an attachment in .doc format:

Fiction

3. The first three chapters

Non-fiction

4. A short author biography / CV
5. Proposed title
6. A description of the proposed book including details about length, illustrations (if any), format, possible audience
7. Up to six illustrations in jpg format of file size not more than 500k each (optional)
8. One to three sample chapters if available (optional)

Please remember to include your name and contact details on all correspondance. Do not send Zipped files, and do not send the entire book. If we like what you have sent we will ask to see more. While we do read every submission that is sent to us, we cannot give you detailed feedback on submissions that we choose not to accept. Be aware that because of the high volume of sumissions we recieve, it can take up to three months to respond to a submission. If after that time you have not heard from us, please feel free to drop us an email to check the status of your submission.
